This has been discussed for a long time that whether domain names should be keyword based or not, but yet we have not got any conclusive results because inclusion of keywords in domain names is not that important unlike targeted audience, advertising budget but above all this is Quality content. Before knowing that domain name should be keyword based or not, it is more important to know that how different search engines treat keywords for different domain names. Except MSN, no other search engine takes into account or gives importance to keywords in domain names. We all know that Google covers the 2/3 of the search engine market and it does not gives preference to keywords in domain name. But, in some cases like in long tail keyword based domain names can be even more important than top-level domain, back links, and quality content.
Search engines do not emphasize on keywords based domain names because it is abused by spammers as well as it is near to impossible to get hold of any exact match domain names. In voting, 48% of the users and surfers voted in favor of using keyword based domain names and the rest had other opinions. There are some advantages of using keywords in domain name and the first one is that the site name directly tells the user about the products of the site, for example if a site sells mobile phones then its key phrase based domain name would be something like “mobilephoneblog” and the second advantage is that they provide a boost up to SEO marketing. Now the biggest disadvantage is that these domain names do not have broad focus. So, this point prevents them or stops them from being used or we can say utilized for other searches which have some different meaning from the one given in domain name.
